Here’s a great video of harmonica player J.D. Hill and his band the Jammers performing at New Orleans’ St. Roch Tavern. We dare you not to wiggle as you watch this.
Unfortnately, Hill hasn’t been performing much lately. We received a message today from our friend Ann Banks, who is organizing a benefit show this coming Monday, Sept. 27, to help the bluesman through some rough times. Here’s an excerpt from Banks’ email:
J.D. was the first musician to get a house in Musicians’ Village. He’s now facing foreclosure because he can’t pay his mortgage. He was shot in a robbery and has had a long haul of recovery but now he’s playing again with his group The Jammers. It’s possible there will be some big names who come by to sit in. The concert will be at 8 o’clock at the should be really fun. I hope you”ll spread the word and bring as many people as you like. No cover, but the musicians are hoping to make a little of money from tips.
The show will be held at Deck Bar and Grille, 1715 Jefferson Highway, at the corner of Jefferson and Betz Avenues. The phone number is (504) 830-0104.
