After writing yesterday’s post about Ponderosa Stomp, we became obsessed with finding videos of Barbara Lynn singing her 1962 hit “You’ll Lose a Good Thing.” We found a link to the undated television segment above on the Stomp’s own web site; we assume it came from shortly after the song went to No. 1 on the charts.
Below is a video of Lynn’s singing the song at the 2008 Stomp, 46 years after originally recording it at Cosimo Matassa’s New Orleans studio. It’s not the highest quality video, and we don’t condone bootleg recordings. But we wanted to post it to show how, at 68, Lynn has lost none of her power as a vocalist and guitarist.
We love this quote from Lynn: “The singing never left me. That’s all I ever wanted to be. I just love to entertain. I don’t care if its for an audience of one.”
P.S. Really. If your ticket says “no recording,” please don’t record.
